Gazetteers are a valuable reference tool which provides information about the people, culture, customs, geographical, linguistic, ethnic data, etc. of a specific time. The Assam State Archives hold a sizable collection of Imperial Gazetteers, Gazetteers of India and other province District Gazetteers. The Assam State Archives hold preserved a number of District Gazetteers of Assam such as Sylhet District, Sibasagar District, Darrang District, Kamrup District, Cachar District which were compiled by Mr. B. C. Allen in 1905. Some Burma District Gazetteers starting from the year from 1879 are also available in the Assam State Archives.
