The Assam State Archives provides research facilities to research scholars and other general public for reference. Under the existing rules regulating research works, all records which are 25 five years old are open for consultation by scholars. They can also avail of photocopies of documents on payment of one rupee per copy. In some cases, the scholars are allowed to use digital camera to photograph the brittle and damaged files on payment of one rupee per photo.
Assam State Archives conducts one month internship course every year on conservation, record management and preservation for the students of colleges and universities during which both theoritical and practical classes are conducted by the archivist and senior officers of the Directorate.
Research Room remains open from 10.30 AM. To 4.15 PM (winter time) / 5.00 PM(summer time) on all working days of the year except on Sundays, and second and fourth Saturdays of the month and other holidays notified by the Government.
For Indian Scholars
Indian Research Scholars are required to submit a letter of recommendation from their sponsoring University/Institution/Department. Permission would be initially granted for three months and extended thereafter, as required.
For Foreign Scholars
Foreign Research Scholars are required to submit a letter of recommendation from their sponsoring University/Institution/Departments as well as a letter of
